In another major victory activist group GetUp! has won its Federal Court bid to allow voters to enrol online.

The Australian Electoral Commission shut down the organisations ozenrol.com website which allowed voters to register online and use their mouse or trackpad to sign forms electronically.

GetUp! national director Simon Sheikh told abcnews that the decision is historic.

The decision follows the groups victory in the High Court to repeal amendments to the Electoral Act made in 2006.

The amendments meant that new voters only had until 8pm to enrol on the day writs were issued or three days to change their enrolment details.
